CFAN provides funding to organizations that are seeking financial support for FASD services. The funding that CFAN distributes is provided via the Alberta FASD Cross Ministry Committee in the areas of Targeted and Indicated Prevention, Assessment and Diagnosis and Supports for Individuals and Caregivers. Currently CFAN provides funding to programs of the following agencies:

  • Enviros Wilderness School Association – The FASD Support Program offers assistance to foster, adoptive, kinship, and biological families with a child or youth under the age of 18 years with FASD.  This program provides innovative support to assist caregivers and other community partners in recognizing the strengths and abilities of the child or youth and developing strategies based on recommendations in the FASD medical assessment.The FASD Evolution Program offers support to adults living with a diagnosis of FASD.  This support may include accessing income support, housing, employment and medical care.  Assistance is also given in helping the person who has been recently diagnosed (and his/her support team) with understanding the individual’s strengths and challenges in an effort to develop and enhance strategies to best support that individual.
  • Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society – The Foothills Fetal Alcohol’s FASD Family Response Program supports caregivers who are living with someone with FASD.  In home visitation, advocacy within systems, accessing diagnosis and assessment and transition supports are typical focuses within this program, but the needs of the caregivers direct the service.The Foothills Fetal Alcohol Society also hosts a variety of Parent Support Groups.  Quarterly “Breathe” events for moms and grandmothers, Quarterly “Toolkit” events for dads and grandpas, monthly meetings for parents of young adults and adults and a monthly meeting for parents in Strathmore are currently operating.
  • Renfrew Educational ServicesFASD Travelling Clinic – The travelling team conducts clinics in rural communities in Southern Alberta and assesses and diagnoses children (when appropriate) between the ages of 3 and 17 years of age with confirmed prenatal alcohol exposure.  The team consists of a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist in consultation with a Developmental Pediatrician.  Services include multi-disciplinary assessments and consultation regarding recommendations and strategies to support the child and family at home, school and in the community.
  • Parent Support Association – Parent Support Association supports all  parents and caregivers  who are struggling with the behaviour of their teens. Parents learn problem solving strategies, education, and the value of peer support to improve the relationships with their families.Programs offered: Weekly Peer Support groups, 4 week Resolution workshops, Foundations workshops, FASD parent/caregiver support groups as well as a 24 hour information support line.  To access PSA and learn more about our groups visit our website at www.helpforparents.ca or call 403-270-1809.
  • Alberta Children’s Hospital, Child Development ServicesFetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders Diagnostic Clinic – serves children (0-18 years) exposed to alcohol during pregnancy. It is a multi-disciplinary clinic providing diagnostic assessment and treatment recommendation coordinated with community based services. Contact info:  Child Development Services Intake: phone 403-955-5999 or fax 403-955-5990. Referrals require a Physician directed referral.
  • MediGene Services FAS Diagnostic Clinic – provides assessment and diagnosis for individuals throughout their life span (children, youth, adults) with known or suspected prenatal alcohol exposure. The program provides a multi-disciplinary FAS Assessment resulting in diagnosis, comprehensive report indicating the synthesis of the assessment findings and practical recommendations for management in all area of life, case conference with the key stakeholders in the individual’s life, and when requested, a personal diagnostic interpretation session with the patient. MediGene also provides follow-up evaluations at the significant developmental nodes where further definition of skills, abilities and needs can aid with transitioning, programming, and accessing services and supports.
  • McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association – The Youth and Adult Action Club, YAAC, is a peer support program for youth and young adults with FASD. The meetings are planned around activities and are a safe and welcoming place to gain encouragement or to simply have fun.  It gives youth the chance to practice skills, a place to share strengths and interests and also a venue to have fun.     P-CAP delivers three programs:

    P-CAP (Parent Child Assistance Program) serves women who are pregnant or up to 6 months post partum who acknowledge drug and alcohol use during this pregnancy. This is a long term (3 years) program with the goals of not having further affected children, that mothers are connected to community services and maintain as clean and sober a life as they can manage and that children are raised in safe and healthy homes.  Clients do goals every 3 months and those dictate the services provided.
    P-CAP-Rural
    , has the same criteria as above however clients come from the rural area around Calgary.
    P-CAP-EE (Parent Child Assistance Program Expanded Enrolment) serves families where one or both of the parents have been diagnosed as having or are suspected of having a FASD who are parenting their children at least half of the time. The program provides supports and Advocacy for parents to live more successful lives.
  • Calgary John Howard Society – The Extended FASD Support Project supports adult men and women (18+) diagnosed or suspected of living with FASD who are at risk of involvement or are involved with the criminal justice system. Supports include the development of a Community Support Team for each client, advocacy and referrals, and intervention and prevention strategies based on the individual’s identified strengths. The program also provides workshops on “Enhancing Professional Supports for Adults Living with FASD”.
